Spain • Andalucia • Subbética Natural Park
Peonies and peregrines Some of our daysAcross the northern SubbéticaDriving to the high point in the south we return home across the mountains. The route has a lovely open feel and the circling vultures keep an eye on us.
Circuit of woody hillThis circular walk from our hotel provides an excellent first day of contrasting landscapes, with lichen-clad evergreen oak woods, contoured muletracks and ancient farms. Cave of the bats and ZagrillaAfter exploring the caves, we cross the high meadows, pass the cliffs of the vultures and finally descend to the village of Zagrilla for refreshments. Free dayA great chance to visit Córdoba with its magnificent mosque, close by the fascinating Jewish quarter. For those who enjoy it there are many stylish shops and a vibrant caféé culture. Luque, the bedstead walkPassing great limestone crags and ancient Moorish wells, we cross the shoulder of the mountain, with its magnificent views of the distant sierra and Luque, our lunch stop beneath us. Manuel's wayThis popular walk takes us along and up a large escarpment. Then, with the village of Doña Mencía below, we return home via the olive groves beneath the mountains. Departure dayWe leave Zuheros in time to get to Málaga for 10am.
