Chestnuts and chorizo
A typical itinerary on this walking holiday in Andalucia
Leaving Faro we arrive in Alajar in time to explore this pretty village before dinner.
From our hotel we climb gently up the Sierra de Arturo, enjoying the view of Alajar and passing through the hamlets of Los Madroñeros and El Calabacino.
Meandering past mills
Our walk follows a picturesque brook that takes us through a dramatic gorge with wonderful rock formations, and past several old, abandoned mills.
Wandering through woodland, we pass several villages before dropping down to the beautiful village of Linares, well-known for its citrus groves.
A great chance to visit the capital city of Andalucia, Seville, or the more easily accessible regional centre of Aracena.
Under a chestnut canopy
Wonderfully varied landscapes, lush orchards and the village of Castaño del Robledo are the day’s highlights. We walk old Roman roads via arid hilltops descending in the shade of chestnut and cork oak.
Churros and cheerios
Starting with a snack of churros, our walking route follows the old cobbled route up to the Puerto de Linares, on to Linares, and finally circle back home to Alajar. A farewell to the Sierra.
We depart early for Faro airport.
Note: This is a selection of the many options available on this walking holiday in Andalucia, Spain. Weather conditions, group interests and the tutor will influence the final itinerary.
