The Bellunesi – the other Dolomites
Unknown to most until the establishment of the National Park, the Bellunesi region is a treasure trove of wildlife – mouflon, red and roe deer, chamois, and marmot. Ten pairs of nesting golden eagles oversee this magnificent landscape and alpine flowers are everywhere. It’s a fabulous walking holiday in the alternative Dolomites

A typical week on this walking holiday in the Dolomites

Arrival day

We arrive in the mountain village of Croce d'Aune in time to explore the village.

Into the Valle del Mis

A shortish first day starting at the Visitor Centre and the historical Pedavena Brewery. Then we get cracking and walk through Valle del Mis with the spectacular sculpted waterfalls of the Cadini del Brenton.

Way up high

A longer day on one of the most famous walks –a spectacular climb to the refuge Giorgio Dal Piaz. There is a wonderful sense of isolation amidst these great peaks.

The Museum in the Clouds

After visiting Cibiana, famous for its houses with painted murals, we make the ascent of Mount Rite and visit the incredible Messner Museum in the Clouds with its spectacular panorama of the Dolomites. On our return home we pass the famous Vajont Dam.

A day of rest

We start with a stroll in the beautiful old town of Feltre, followed by a visit to the Ethnographic Museum of Serravella. A short transfer takes us to Agordo where we will visit the former copper mines of the Venetian Republic. Later, we walk through the town of Belluno, ending the day with an aperitif.

The Cansiglio Plateau

A wonderful walk on the plateau Cansiglio with lush meadows and the sacred forest of Serenissima. We pass the gorgeous beech woods of Cansiglio and end the day at the local organic dairy for cheese-tasting.

A circuit of Stua lake

A beautiful circuit walking around one of the most famous valleys of the park. This really is an immersion in nature – meadows, flowers, hornbeam, beech and Scots pine, streams, limestone outcrops and the evidence of Quaternary glaciation.

Departure day

After breakfast we return to Venice Airport.

Note: This is a selection of the many options available on this walking holiday in the Dolomites. Weather conditions, group interests and the tutor will influence the final itinerary.
