Guided walking holiday

Italy • Italian Riveria • Cinque Terre

Footpath, Cinque Terre

Wandering the five lands
A week of spectacular walking through mountains that dive to the sea interrupted from time to time by small tiny villages, once fishermen's refuges, still unconnected by road. Part of the Italian Riviera, Cinque Terre inspired Shelley, Byron and many other poets. There may be no roads but the trains open up this unique landscape.

Some of our days

Arrival day

A short transfer from Pisa airport brings us to Monterosso al Mare. There's time to enjoy the view, swim or perhaps explore the first few steps of the route to Levanto.

Riomaggiore - Corniglia

A short ride on the train will take us to Riomaggiore. From here, along the famous "Lover's path", we reach Corniglia and Vernazza, crossing terraced vineyards, fields and Mediterranean vegetation, suspended the whole time between mountain and sea. A great day, with a short return on the train.

Vernazza

Levanto - Costa del Semaforo - Colle di Gritta - Monterosso

The train takes us to Levanto from where, passing by the castle, we follow a beautiful ancient path cut into the edge of the cliff. Its a panorama the whole way.

Vernazza - Madonna di Reggio - Santuario di Soviore

A short train journey takes us to Vernazza, from where we climb to the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Reggio. We then walk through woodland to a second ancient Sanctuary, before starting our descent to Monterosso along an ancient pilgrims' path.

Free day

A chance to relax around the hotel or perhaps visit Portofino or Genoa by train.

Porto Venere - Riomaggiore

A boat take us to Portovenere, where we enjoy a short tour of the town, whose highlights include the churches of San Pietro and San Lorenzo and the Genovese Doria Castle. From here, we follow the sea to Riomaggiore, from where a long descent takes us to the train station and our journey home.

Monterosso - Vernazza

We follow the "blue trail" to Vernazza, an ancient footpath along terraced vineyards and olive groves and past ancient fishing villages. We return home by sea or train depending on the sea conditions.

Departure day

After an early breakfast we return to Pisa airport.
