Coast, contours and Capri
It makes an impression –it always has done. Even back in 29 BC, Emperor Augustus fell in love with, and acquired, Capri. A walking holiday on the Amalfi coast is a wonderful experience –perhaps it’s standing hundreds of feet above the blue-green Med, or wandering through olive groves in the lemon-infused air

A typical itinerary on this walking holiday in Amalfi

Arrival day

A short transfer to our hotel in Agerola leaves time to explore before dinner.

The walk of the Gods

This amazing walk follows the contours of the land and leads us through fields of wildflowers, past ancient stone huts, and across precipitous terraced hillsides overlooking the sea. We end the day in beautiful Positano on the Amalfi Coast.

Valley of watermills

Via the charming village of Pontone, we follow the Torre dello Zirro ridge before descending into the valley of the watermills, with its ruins of ancient paper mills. The path takes us deep into the valley, with lush vegetation and waterfalls. Later, we walk to a 13th century paper mill before stopping by a limoncello maker to observe and taste!

Off to Amalfi

From the artists’ retreat of Ravello, we descend via vineyards, lemon groves and hamlets to the coast and Amalfi town. After an ice-cream, we take the labyrinthine path around the headland to Atrani.

Free day

Pop down to the sea or enjoy a boat ride from Sorrento to the island of Capri with its Roman ruins and stone-paved lanes –a Mediterranean retreat which is surely one of the most beautiful in the world.

Vesuvius and Pompeii

From high on Vesuvius we circle the crater past lava flows and pumice fields to view the Bay of Naples –one of the panoramic wonders of the world. Later, we explore the extraordinary site of Pompeii.

The ridge of Monte Tre Calli

Through vineyards and chestnut woods, we climb the ridge of Monte Tre Calli, with its wide vistas. Choose to continue the climb to the Monte Sant'Angelo, or stop and enjoy an extended picnic lunch. We descend via the chapel of the Silent Virgin to our hotel.

Departure day

We depart early for Naples airport.
