Abruzzo flowers

Rare flowers and secret meadows
Here in the Abruzzo National Park the last stronghold of brown bear, lynx, chamois and wolf, live in harmony with man. The overwhelming sense of peace is enriched by the staggering variety of rare and beautiful plants which grow in astonishing numbers.

Some of our days

Arrival day

Leaving Rome we arrive in Barrea in time for a short walk to get to know the local area before dinner.

Villetta Barrea, Colle Sant'Janni, Camosciara, Civitella

We walk through one of the most beautiful forest of the National Park with spectacular views of the Camosciara massif. With luck we will find signs of the brown bear and the wolf.

Monte San Nicola,Valle Fondillo

From the Pass of Forca d'Acero we begin our wonderful walk. Rich display of many varieties of gentian in the high meadows.

Orchid hunting day

Today we explore secret meadows where we can spot the most magnificent and rare flowers in the park. Wonderful views and high peaks, home to lynx, bear and the core population of wolves in the Park.

Free day

A chance to relax or join the optional tour of Stefano's favourite, magical medieval villages.

Butterfly in Abruzzo

La Ruccia and the Campitelli plateau

A wonderful walk full of variation that takes us to an excellent place for bird watching. After the walk, we descend towards Barrea along an ancient drovers' track. In the evening Carmelo, our host, cooks many local specialties for us and a local shepherd makes ricotta with sheep’s milk for our dinner.

Stazzo di Ziomas to the Passo di Monte Godi

Starting at the Monte Godi Pass we begin our walk to the "stazzo", once a milking station for sheep. From there it will be possible to see the entire north side of the Park. This is also one of the best places to observe wild animals. All the surrounding area is covered with wild flowers including many orchids.
