Rare flowers and secret meadows Some of our daysArrival dayLeaving Rome we arrive in Barrea in time for a short walk to get to know the local area before dinner. Villetta Barrea, Colle Sant'Janni, Camosciara, CivitellaWe walk through one of the most beautiful forest of the National Park with spectacular views of the Camosciara massif. With luck we will find signs of the brown bear and the wolf. Monte San Nicola,Valle FondilloFrom the Pass of Forca d'Acero we begin our wonderful walk. Rich display of many varieties of gentian in the high meadows. Orchid hunting dayToday we explore secret meadows where we can spot the most magnificent and rare flowers in the park. Wonderful views and high peaks, home to lynx, bear and the core population of wolves in the Park. Free dayA chance to relax or join the optional tour of Stefano's favourite, magical medieval villages.
La Ruccia and the Campitelli plateauA wonderful walk full of variation that takes us to an excellent place for bird watching. After the walk, we descend towards Barrea along an ancient drovers' track. In the evening Carmelo, our host, cooks many local specialties for us and a local shepherd makes ricotta with sheep’s milk for our dinner. Stazzo di Ziomas to the Passo di Monte GodiStarting at the Monte Godi Pass we begin our walk to the "stazzo", once a milking station for sheep. From there it will be possible to see the entire north side of the Park. This is also one of the best places to observe wild animals. All the surrounding area is covered with wild flowers including many orchids. Departure dayWe depart for Rome airport after an early breakfast.
