Song, safari & saris in GujaratJoin our wonderful, acapella singing adventure in Gujarat, western India. So much more than just a singing holiday, this is an exploratory tour of this beautiful region, famed for textiles, wildlife, architecture and a rich colonial past.

Joyful morning singing sessions with Faith Watson are complimented by half day excursions including a jeep safari in Dhangadhra Sanctuary and Sasan Gir National Park, sightseeing tour of Ahmedabad and visits to important cultural sites. Stay in luxury tented accommodation and traditional kooba cottages for a memorable experience. Gujarat has a long tradition of producing gorgeous cotton textiles, including block print, one of the oldest craft forms in the world. We’ll visit rural textile villages to get a sense of this history and admire the fabrics.

As always, our acapella singing holidays are uplifting, sociable, informative and fun.

A typical itinerary on this Acapella singing holiday in India

Arrival day

From the airport you will be transferred to the Rann Riders Hotel in Dasada.

Dasada – three nights

Leaving Ahmedabad airport, we make our way to Dasada. After plenty of rest, Faith will bring our group together in a gentle introduction to the holiday and singing programme. Faith will bring the group together in happy harmony within a few sessions, and most mornings will be filled with world music and song. Hum your way around the interesting cultural sites and markets in the afternoons, including Kankaria Lake, Jain Temple, Mahatma Gandhi’s home and the Sabarmati riverfront.

Mornings are spent enjoying song and building on our growing repertoire. Afternoon activities include a jeep safari in the Dhangadhra Sanctuary, one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in India. Explore desert plains, arid grasslands, lakes and marshes and watch out for gazelle and antelope. We’ll be staying in the unique kooba and bungha houses which are traditional in Dasada, built as small cottages and styled with woven textiles, mud plasterwork, mirrors and beautiful embroideries. (They are very comfortable, with all mod cons!).

Rajkot – three nights

The Khirasara Palace, just beyond the bustling city of Rajkot, is the perfect base for our three nights in India. Sing from the elevated position of the Khirasara Palace with stunning panoramic views, taking in the spectacular 450 year old heritage of the building and its history. We’ll head into nearby Rajkot for a spot of sightseeing and shopping, stopping by at the Watson Museum, Shri Ramakrishna Ashram, Mahatma Gandhi High School with many other options.

Sasan Gir – three nights

The Lion Safari Camp in the Sasan National Park is the base for three nights in luxury, tented accommodation. Sasan Gir National Park is the last remaining home of the Asiatic lion. Since 1980, another eighty six lions have been born thanks to the important work at the sanctuary. It is also the best place in India to see Big Cats, with the highest population of leopards in any national park. The Kamleshwar dam in the middle of the park is home to marsh crocodiles. Other wildlife includes deer, blue bull, wild boar, hyena, and three hundred different bird varieties.

Spend morning sessions in the glorious surroundings of the park, tuning into the animal sounds that reverberate through the forest! We have organised one afternoon excursion – a jeep safari – where you’ll get the chance to spot panther, hyena, blue bull or spotted deer. Other afternoons can be spent simply relaxing. Evenings are meant for enjoying delicious Gujarati cuisine and sharing stories.

Ahmedabad – three nights

Ahmedabad, former capital city of Gujarat, is the largest city in the region, located on the banks of the Sabarmati river. Cricket, cotton and commerce are central to the culture here. There will be lots of time to enjoy the comfort of the hotel, spa and indoor swimming pool.

We hope to spend our last evening singing with a local choir, celebrating our adventure with a glass of fizz.

Departure day

We leave early for Ahmedabad airport.

Note: This is a typical week on our Acapella singing holiday in India. Weather conditions will influence the final itinerary.
