Lanzarote fire mountain

Boiling pots and hot shots
Over two centuries ago the largest volcanic eruption in recorded history took place, leaving a strange and alluring countryside in its wake – a landscape littered with volcanoes and dark streams of jagged lava. This is the backdrop to nearly every scene on the island and none more so than the 'Fire Mountains'. A true photographic adventure.

Some of our days

Arrival day

A short transfer takes us from Arrecife airport to our hotel in Playa Blanca in time for a swim in the pool before a brief introduction to the week and dinner.

Teguise Market and Haria

Market day in Teguise provides great opportunities for candid and colourful shots. The afternoon gives us the chance to capture some of the quieter corners of this ancient capital town.

The mountains of fire

An extraordinary day in the Timanfaya National park. Here, amidst the reds, ochres and blacks of this lunar landscape, we will capture the surrealist and abstract qualities of the landscape while experiencing the power of the natural world. After a visit to a geothermic exhibition there is the option to walk inside the ancient volcanic eruption, stepping on still-warm lava up to the very edge of the Caldera Blanca.

Vineyards in Lanzarote

Free day

An optional tour, with a particular focus on the creations of Cesar Manrique, includes his cactus garden, the famous Mirador del Rio which he transformed from a military settlement, an incredible cave system created by lava.

The boiling Pots of El Golfo

We start at the spectacular volcanic crater of El Golfo, with its green lagoon amidst black sands. We move on to the amazing rockscapes of Los Hervideros, a tunnel system created by lava flowing into the sea. Here, where the sea pounds into caves, we follow walkways laid out by the artist Cesar Manrique through the maze of lava. In the afternoon there are more opportunities for abstraction in the colourful patchwork created by the salt pans of the Salinas de Janubio.

Vintage Villages

This is quiet day based on observation as we wander through the peaceful villages of Femes,Yaiza and Uga. Good opportunities for candid and detail shots.

The vineyards of La Geria

The local design of vineyards is unique – the vines, set in holes in the lava, are surrounded by stone walls and create amazing images. During the day, Alberto, the local wine-master will introduce us to the subtleties of the wines. A day strong on texture and high contrast.
