The Himalayan kingdom of Nepal is renowned for the gracious ways of the people, temples, sacred pilgrimage sites, in a backdrop of the most famous mountains in the world. This magical mountain kingdom, with its breathtaking landscapes, invites you to contemplate the meaning of life on earth through the viewfinder of your lens. Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal, a World Heritage Site, and a kingdom with Maharajas' palaces of great opulence and grandeur. Tibetan monks, Brahmin priests and Newar nuns worship peacefully alongside one another at the Hindu temples and Buddhist pagodas and huge prayer wheels representing transience. The devotees' religious practice and prayer ceremonies are a strong aspect of the culture and compelling to photograph, while Kathmandu's marketplace teems with daily life and business. Further north, into the Himalayas, the lens pans out across the magnificent vista of mountains with distant snowy peaks, and the serenity of lakes.
Watching the sunrise kissing the snowy mountaintops of the Annapurna range was truly memorable. We all fell in love with the elevated village of Bandipur and the rustic charms of the Gaun Ghar Hotel.
PHOTOGRAPHY HOLIDAY
NEPAL - 2012 Mule trains can be seen camped on the outskirts of the Pokhara, bringing goods to trade from remote regions of the Himalaya. This is the land of Magars and Gurungs, hardworking farmers and warriors famed as Gurkha soldiers, and Thakalis, an ethnic group known for entrepreneurship. A colourful bazaar of crafts on a mountain ledge is an opportunity for local scenes with a stunning backdrop. The caste system is evident in the royal city of Bhaktapur, where gilded monuments and temples contrast with families working in the open air, making bowls, jugs and oil lamps. |
