Morocco • Kasbahs and desert sands tour
Moving through mountain hues
Our itinerarySunday – arrival dayTransfer to Marrakech hotel and our first visit to the famous Jma el Fna Square. MondayWe cross the Atlas and arrive in the Valley of the Roses. Big landscapes and a wander through busy irrigated fields. TuesdayA day spent exploring the river valley and also the uniquely photogenic hotel. WednesdayTransfer to the desert at Merzouga and private bivouac. Two hour walk or camel ride. Evening and early morning shoots. ThursdayTransfer to the Dades gorge where the rocks create a purplish hue and, with luck, dusk will create colours that live in the memory for years. FridayContinuing west, we arrive at the Unesco World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou. After lunch, we visit the ancient and much-filmed town and kasbah. In the evening the old town boasts its colours.
SaturdayThis gentle day out takes us 4 miles up the river bed to an ancient and mostly abandoned kasbah. Nesting storks, bright fields, palms, almonds and peace make the day. Optional return trip by camel. SundayRecrossing the Atlas we arrive in Marrakech in time to enjoy the late afternoon and evening in Jma el Fna. This is the time for candid imagery, snake charmers and the ever-present backlit smoke from the braziers. Monday – departure dayAt the time of your choosing, a taxi will take you to your flight.
Note: Inevitably, there will be unplanned events as is the nature
of an adventure. Hopefully we will have one or two musical evenings with musicians
known to us. To maximise this holiday, you should be happy walking on uneven ground.
As an alternative to walking or camel riding to the bivouac, a 4x4 is available
at an additional cost.
