From the lazy vistas of the Backwaters to the cool heights of the Western Ghats, Kerala is a feast for the senses. No-one leaves this maritime paradise unmoved - the combination of tropical sun, soft ocean breezes, rich scents and bright colours will seduce the most experienced traveller.

Arrival day

Transfer from Cochin airport to our first hotel in The Backwaters region.

The Backwaters - four nights*

Our days are spent capturing the varied and colourful waterside locations, taking boat trips and enjoying the everchanging waterscape from the hotel garden.
Transfer – drive to Periyar.
*Note:One night on houseboat, November only.

Periyar Tiger Reserve - three nights

One day recording the bustle of the local town – monkeys, ox-drawn carts and the comings and goings of the local bus station. A free day with one option being a trek in the Tiger Reserve.
Transfer - drive to Munnar.

The Western Ghats - three nights

We stay in the hill-station of Munnar. At 1,500 metres, this vibrant small town is set amidst the lush, green tea gardens that contour the landscape.
Transfer - drive to Fort Cochin.

Fort Cochin - three nights

The ancient headland that separates The Backwaters from the Indian Ocean is an old European settlement with its many wonderful old buildings reminding us of its colonial past. A wonderful old synagogue, spectacular Chinese fishing nets and the burial place of Vasco de Gama are a few of the fascinating features. Good shopping.
