Capture images of the land of fire and ice Our tutor Paul Sansome was so impressed by Iceland that he insisted we add it to our programme for 2010. Glaciers, volcanic craters, active lava flows, spectacular waterfalls and rare birdlife add up to a fascinating holiday in an ancient land that is different from anywhere else on Earth. It isn't hard to get away from it all in Iceland - the country is almost as big as England, yet it has a population of just 320,000. Not part of any continent but an emergent section of the Atlantic mid-oceanic ridge, Iceland is a fascinating land of snow and ice, barren rock (three quarters of its surface has no vegetation), sub-boreal forest and dry grassland. Take a ride among the icebergs on a glacial lagoon, stay at the foot of a glacier, see nesting skuas and puffins and explore lava fields and beaches of black sand. Capture it all with your camera to remind you of an extraordinary place and an extraordinary holiday. |
