Slide show with 3 images

Imagine yourself under miles of open sky, fresh sea breezes at your back, the Scottish sun shining high: this is the Outer Hebrides in spring, an enthralling landscape of infinite colours, shades and possibilities.

Day 1 - Arrival day

We meet at our Stornoway hotel and bond together over dinner & drinks.

Day 2 - Blackhouses and brochs

We make our way to the Blackhouses at Gearrannan and then the walkers set off on a circular walk, while the painters pick a spot to work. Following lunch, we continue to Dun Carloway Broch, an ancient ruin. Again, the walkers enjoy a circular route here, while the painters sit with the beautiful broch as their subject.

Day 3 - Island archaeology

The walkers visit Lews Castle and the painters spend their morning at Stornoway Harbour. After lunch, the painters visit the archaeological site and structures of St. Columba’s Church, while the walkers tour the stone circle of Clach Ghlas.

Day 4 - On Harris

Today we cross to the Isle of Harris, where the painters record the sights of Tarbert Harbour, before proceeding to St Clement’s Church. Meanwhile, the walkers stretch themselves with a full day of hiking.

Day 5 - Pentland Road

Both walkers and painters begin at Pentland Road, a wild and open tract of land, boasting limitless skies, rich birdlife and heather-covered moors. This is one of Lewis’s best-kept secrets. The afternoon is free for us to enjoy the town.

Day 6 - Standing among the stones

We begin our final full day at Callanish, a Neolithic site of standing stones. The painters will enjoy the transitions of light here, while walkers discover the area on foot. After lunch, we visit Great Bernera and end the day back at our hotel.

Day 7 - Departure day

After breakfast, we spend the morning at our own pace. Later, we travel home.
