Lanzarote – land of a thousand colours
Two centuries ago, the largest volcanic eruption ever recorded
occurred, leaving a strange and alluring countryside in its wake – a landscape littered
with dark streams of jagged lava, the backdrop to most scenes on the island and
none more so than the 'Fire Mountains'. A true painting adventure.
Some of our days
Arrival day
A short transfer to our hotel in Playa Blanca leaves time before dinner for a swim
and an introduction to the week.
Teguise market and Haria
Market day in Teguise is a riot of colours and characters. Later we take the chance
to capture some of the quieter corners of this ancient capital town.
The Fire Mountains
A surrealist day spent discovering the power of the natural world and the extraordinary
reds, ochres and blacks of this lunar-like landscape.
The boiling pots of El Golfo
From the spectacular volcanic crater of El Golfo, with its green lagoon amidst black
sands, we move on to discover the amazing rock formations of Los Hervideros, ending
the day at the abstract and colourful patchwork of salt pans at the Salinas de Janubio.
Free day
A chance to relax around the pool or take an optional tour, with a particular focus
on the creations of Cesar Manrique, including his cactus garden and the famous Mirador
del Rio together with an incredible lava created cave system.
Vintage villages
We spend the day in the peaceful village of Femes, with its gentle atmosphere and
charming church.
La Geria
The local bodegas provide an unusual take on vineyards. Set in holes in the lava,
and surrounded by stones walls, they create amazing graphic images. Alberto, the
local wine-master, will share with us the subtleties of these wines.
Departure day
We depart for Arrecife airport after breakfast.
Note: This is a selection of the many options available. Weather conditions,
group interests and the tutor will influence the final itinerary.
