Painting – waters and washes
Perched high above the lake, our hotel offers vistas of the distant mountains. Locations are a short distance away in eucalyptus groves, by streams patrolled by kingfishers and wagtails, beside farmsteads and in olive groves. The view from the village church is just a step away along with the bars and cafés of village life.

Arrival day

Arrival day Leaving Málaga we arrive at our hotel in time for a quick explore before dinner.

Among the cork oaks

The quiet woods, a short walk from the hotel, are a perfect place to acclimatise and prepare for the outdoor work of the week ahead.

A pastoral idyll

In a peaceful valley nearby, oaks provide shade, while the river gives reflections. Sheep and goats saunter by as bee-eaters swoop, warblers call and vultures soar above.

Grazalema

A day in nearby Grazalema to explore and sketch its alleyways, streets and squares, even to sample its shops; we picnic overlooking the valley that sweeps below.

Kingfisher bridge

Just outside the village our riverside location, with its rush and reflections, is matched by José’s nearby ramshackle farmstead with cultivated plots, and the friendly slow-paced activity that goes with it.

Visit nearby Ronda, or explore the local village of Grazalema.

Beside the lake

Viewed from the peaceful shade of an olive grove the lake mirrors mountains and sky, their reflections shifting with changes in wind and wave.

Departure day

We depart for Málaga airport after an early breakfast.
