Berber souks and Atlas mountains
A chance to sketch the bustle of the markets, views of mountain
villages, then relax in the shaded luxuriant gardens of our hotel and paint the
scenes at leisure.
Some of our days
Arrival day
Leaving Marrakech we arrive in Taroudant in time for a quiet wander around the gardens
before dinner.
Warming to the subject
We spend the morning in the hotel gardens before walking to the main square for
lunch. The afternoon is free to wander or continue painting. There will be another
painting tutorial before dinner.
Café culture
We start the day with a guided tour of the souk and Berber market, stopping briefly
for sketches. The afternoon is based at one of the cafés capturing images
of people and city life in sketches.
Feasting at Fattema's
After a morning sketching in the market, we drive to the village of Tiout where
we continue to work outside Fattema's house while she makes us an amazing lunch.
Free day
You can visit the coastal town of Agadir, but bartering in Taroudant market or relaxing
in the gardens are probably better options.
Mint tea at Aziz's
Starting in the Atlas village of Riad we paint local scenes near Aziz's house while
his wife prepares mint tea. Later we enjoy a picnic lunch in a nearby shady oasis
by the village of Tameloukt where we continue working.
Idyll in the Atlas mountains
After breakfast we climb the Atlas stopping at Tinmal mosque. At the Tizi n Test
pass we take mint tea and then go on to the idyllic La Bergerie where we set up
for the rest of the day and overnight.
Departure day
We depart for Marrakech airport after an early breakfast.
Note: On our visit to the mountain village, it will be necessary to walk
on stony paths. For those who do not want this, the option to relax in the gardens
is a good alternative. This is the planned itinerary but please be aware that circumstances
could force changes.
