Castles in the air
Umbria is characterised by fortified castles, medieval hilltop
towns and villages overlooking farmsteads and vineyards.
Some of our days
Arrival day
We arrive in time for introductions, demonstrations and an aperitif followed by
a dinner of typical Umbrian fare.
Todi on the edge
From its high ramparts we look back at the Todi skyline and at the countryside below.
After a picnic, we explore the rest of the town, its squares and byways.
Out in the countryside
Away from Todi, with wide views of the Tiber valley, the Casale dei Frontini is
a smart country house and family run farm which provides not only excellent local
fare and home made pastas, but an insight into how it produces its own beef cattle
and other foods. We are very fortunate to have this exclusive location.
Doglio
Barrel shaped, hence the name, and crowned by its church tower, this small, high-walled
country village is perched on the side of a forested valley. We paint amidst its
alleyways and from the peaceful, surrounding olive groves.
Cecanibbi – Hannibal was here
Its name derives from when Hannibal, blind in one eye, once camped here. This pretty
hamlet, surrounded by vineyards, vegetable gardens and the chicken pens of the friendly
villagers, echoes to the sounds of village life.
Montecastello, village in the air
High above the Tiber snaking through its fertile valley, this beautiful walled village
faces Todi in the distance, whose church towers break the skyline. A chance to visit
the Teatro della Concordia, the smallest theatre in the world, a regular part of
the local Umbrian arts scene.
Free day
Explore Todi or visit Perugia or Assisi.
Departure day
We depart for Rome airport after an early breakfast.
Note: This is a selection of the many options available. Weather conditions,
group interests and the tutor will influence the final itinerary.
