Castles in the air
A typical itinerary on this painting holiday in Umbria
We arrive at Canalicchio in time to explore this beautiful medieval village.
Nests, nooks and crannies
Below our hotel in gentle farmland we sketch looking up at this elevated eagle’s nest of a village. After lunch we move to the ancient alleyways within the village.
Castles and monasteries
We go to Fratta Todina a fortified town protected by a castle. The Franciscan monastery in the town centre is our location for the afternoon.
A picture of perfection
We cross the Tiber to spend the day at Giano dell’Umbria, an unspoilt fortified hamlet ringed with olive groves and deep pastoral countryside – a peaceful spot for painting in Umbria.
A fabulous day around the pretty village of Cecanibbi with striking views of the two towers of Poggia Brico and Monte Castello. Villagers tend their gardens, children play and we paint surrounded by olives groves.
Spoilt for choice; try Assisi or Perugia.
We arrive in Titignano in time for lunch, after which we paint its beautiful buildings.
A turn around Todi
Fast becoming a centre for arts in Umbria, we spend the day in the centre of Todi in the Piazza del Popolo, one of the most thoroughly medieval outdoor spaces in Italy.
Titignano and surroundings
A day of focused tuition with no time lost on travel. Structured sessions in the grounds of this beautiful agriturismo.
Beside the water
Castiglione del Lago lies on the shores of Lake Trasimeno – a fabulous mix of medieval town, ancient fortress, frescoes and reflections of light on water.
We leave after breakfast for Rome.
Note: This is a selection of the many options available on this painting holiday in Umbria, Italy. Weather conditions, group interests and the tutor will influence the final itinerary.
Where we stay
Hotel Relais il Canalicchio
Nestled amongst the rolling green countryside of Umbria, Relais Il Canalicchio overlooks vineyards and olive groves, standing like a small gem proud on the summit of a hill. It was once a medieval village with a church and tower. The panoramic restaurant serves fine Umbrian cuisine, together with classic Italian dishes.
Airport transfer time
Approximately 2 hours
Our hotel occupies the whole village of Titignano, now a modern estate complete with forty bedrooms decorated in a traditional Italian style, a church (perfect for our singing groups!), traditional restaurant serving handmade pasta, olive oil, bread, truffle and game, an outdoor swimming pool and glorious panoramic views of the surrounding hills and vineyards. Our very own perfect Umbrian paradise for a week.
