Communing with nature
A typical itinerary on this painting holiday in Abruzzo
We arrive in Civitella in time for a short walk around the village to familiarise ourselves with the area before dinner.
Down by the waterside
Just a few paces from the hotel, we paint the view of the lake, with its stunning mountain backdrop.
The doors of Barrea
We paint in the small, peaceful square, beside the church. Our subjects are lovely old doorways, an ancient water fountain and the quaint little streets off the square with their honey-coloured stone houses.
Oasis Del Lago
We paint beside the lake, under the overhanging willows whose branches dip low into the water. Surrounded by mountains and a sprinkling of tiny villages, we watch colourful boats bobbing on the lake.
Take a break on this painting holiday and Relax in the village or visit Scanno, immortalised by photographer Henri Cartier Bresson and, according to Edward Lear, home to Italy's most beautiful women. We'll let you decide!
Valle Fiorita, Pizzone
We spend the day high in the heart of the National Park of Abruzzo. At the edge of an ancient and beautiful wood and heath land, cropped by the wandering wild ponies, we paint surrounded by nature in all her glory!
A last morning in our home village before returning to the hotel gardens for some “finishing off” in time for an exhibition of our paintings.
We depart for Rome airport after an early breakfast.

Where we stay on this painting holiday in Abruzzo, Italy
Hotel Albergo La Torre
Our hotel is located in the historical centre of Civitella Alfedena. Converted from an 18th century noble palace, the hotel derives its name from the 15th century ancient tower in front of the hotel building. There is a small attractive garden and all the rooms have great mountain views, en-suite bathrooms, phones, televisions and hairdryers. The hotel restaurant is known for its local mountain cooking, in particular genuine homemade pasta, as well as the extraordinary high quality of meat daily provided by the caring local farmers together with a wide choice of cheeses, in particular the famous pecorino, sheep milk cheese. A perfect location for these painting holidays in Abruzzo.
