Canary Islands • La Gomera
Slide show with 3 images
From villages built out of lava stones, to the dazzling Gran Rey mountains, La Gomera’s scenes suit every palette: blue for endless seas, red for crumbling cliffs, and yellow for its glorious golden light.
Day 1 - Arrival day
We land in Tenerife, transferring to La Gomera by ferry this afternoon. We check in to our clifftop hotel, and get to know each other over drinks and dinner.
Day 2 - A volcanic village
This morning we go to the village of Arure, where we take time to paint traditional houses, some of which are built from volcanic stone. We enjoy lunch in a local restaurant. We also stop at a beautiful viewpoint, to sketch another aspect of the island.
Day 3 - The Valley of the Great King
Our ‘studio’ this morning is ancient Agulo, a blend of red-stone cliffs, Moorishstyle architecture, and breath-taking seascapes. Pausing for lunch, we continue to Valle Gran Rey, otherwise known as the Valley of the Great King.
Day 4 - La Gomeran landscapes
We focus on colour and form this morning, working to recreate the island’s shapes, red soil and trees on our own canvases. This afternoon our painting journey takes us to the hamlet of Caserío des Epenias.
Day 5 - Free day
Today is ours to spend as we wish. Options include bathing, being pampered in the hotel spa, or taking a walk along the cliffs for some independent sketching.
Day 6 - Viva Las Hayas
Our destination today is the idyllic Las Hayas, where we base ourselves for a day painting woodland, orchards, and sun-dappled flora. Tonight we celebrate with a fantastic farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 7 - Departure day
We return to the mainland by ferry, and board our return flight home later today.
