Zahara, Grazalema

The Grazalema Natural Park

The Grazalema Natural Park lies some 20 miles to the west of the historic town of Ronda. The park was established to protect the rare Spanish fir (pinsapo), a relic of forests over two million years old.

This verdant and spectacular limestone region, with its towering peaks of some 2,000 metres, is home to the agile ibex and one of Europe's largest colonies of griffon vultures. As the air warms and rises, so do scores of these magnificent birds that circle above the cliffs and rich green valleys.

We stay in Zahara de la Sierra, a near perfect white village overhung by crags with views across the blue reservoir to the shimmering white outline of Olvera. Ronda makes a fabulous trip on the free day.

Where we stay
The lovely hotel is positioned within the village and perched on the cliff – as a result the view, which looks across the reservoir, is stunning.

All the rooms are airconditioned and very comfortable, the bathrooms are impeccable and the service is superb.
