Italy • Umbria
Umbria is rightly known as the Green Heart of Italy. Famed for the natural wonders of its landscape it is also home to a seemingly inexhaustible array of artistic and architectural treasures. This balance between the natural and artistic is what makes it so special. Any reference to Umbria would be incomplete without mention of its food. This is the land of the truffle, fine olive oils, game, succulent pork, the freshest local produce and of course, excellent wine.
Canalicchio – hilltop magic
Canalicchio is a picturesque town built around the Castello di Poggio which dominates the town with its imposing tower and a splendid little church. The area is famed for its well preserved medieval towns, whose narrow, winding streets reveal secrets around every corner such as tiny churches sheltering their frescoes. Set against the delights of the towns is a little-explored landscape of rolling hills, ancient beech woods, olive groves and vineyards.
Titignano – our own private estate
The small village of Titignano, today a modern estate, is surrounded by 2,000 hectares of maquis, woods, vineyards and olive groves and is located on a panoramic position on the hills between Orvieto and Todi. It dominates the valley below with the enchanting Lake Corbara. The traditional farm houses and buildings were built by Farolf of Montemarte in 937 A.D and are now owned by Marchesa Nerina Corsini Incisa della Rocchetta.
Where we stay
Hotel Relais il Canalicchio
Nestled amongst the rolling green countryside of Umbria, Relais Il Canalicchio overlooks vineyards and olive groves, standing like a small gem proud on the summit of a hill. It was once a medieval village with a church and tower. The panoramic restaurant serves fine Umbrian cuisine, together with classic Italian dishes.
