Lazio was once part of the ancient land of Tuscia, the land of the Etruscans, who shaped Italian civilisation. The culture and heritage we know so well today from the great Italian cities comes from here, and a visit is full of fascination. Here are some of the most important relics of the Etruscans, from the ancient 'ghost town' of Monterano to the necropolis of Marturanum.

Despite its proximity to Rome this is wild and beautiful country, with sheltered valleys and deep woodland - even wolves still roam the wilder parts of this intriguing part of Italy.
