Italy • Abruzzo • Barrea
Abruzzo, Barrea Some two hours east of Rome there's a surprise in store. High in the Appennini amidst majestic limestone peaks lies the lakeside village of Barrea. In this mountain kingdom you can read its history in the magnificent stone doorways – symbols of independence, security and success. Abruzzo was the first National Park in Italy. Its rock walls and forests are home to brown bear, lynx, chamois and wolf. These holidays are enormously enhanced by our two local guides, their knowledge and their friendships with the park wardens.
