India • Gujarat
Gujarat is a new location in 2017, brought to us through our fantastic contacts in India. Gujarat in west India is sometimes referred to as the ‘Jewel of Western India’. It has a nine hundred mile coastline and Lothal is purported to be one of the world’s first seaports, and certainly the first port in India. The region was known to the ancient Greeks, and was first colonised by Europeans in 1600’s. The Portugese were the first power to arrive in Gujarat, and the Dutch, French and English established bases along the western coast of this region.
We have created a very rich itinerary travelling to many different parts of the region, with plenty to inspire you. Cricket, commerce, textiles, ancient archeological sites and wildlife are some of the key features of Gujarat. Ahmedabad, the former capital of Gujarat is the largest city and one of the fastest growing cities in India. There is European influence with buildings designed by Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright. Rajkot played a significant role in the Indian Independence movement and was home to Gandhi. We will visit the Gandhi Ashram on the banks of the Sabarmati river, once the residence of Gandhi who lived there for twelve years with his wife Kasturba Gandhi.
All our hotels have been carefully selected for their authenticity, quality, service and proximity to our locations.
