Tropical breezes, colonial history and mountain wildlife

India is Authentic Adventures' biggest adventure to date. Kerala, the maritime region at the foot of the south-west coast, lies under a tropical sun tempered by gentle ocean breezes. It's the perfect place to relax, to wander and to explore and everywhere you'll experience new colours, new scents and new sights. Kerala is a highly cultured state yet it is rich in wildlife, thanks to the climate and the diversity of the landscape.

Our holidays begin and end in the seaport of Cochin, a spice trading centre since the 14th Century. Not for nothing has it been dubbed the "Venice of the East". We explore its fascinating lagoons, canals and rivers on foot and by boat with the help of hand-picked local guides before we travel inland and up into the spectacular Western Ghats, a 1000-mile long mountain range which rises to nearly 9000 feet. You can see at close quarters the extraordinary wildlife of Periyar Tiger Reserve before we move on to our third centre, the hill town of Munnar. This is the centre of Kerala's beautiful tea region and once the favourite summer resort of India's colonial rulers.
